ST. LOUIS – Sophomore center Cameron Krutwig had 18 points, six rebounds and three assists as Loyola topped Valparaiso, 67-54, in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament quarterfinals Friday. Krutwig, a Jacobs graduate from Algonquin, also had two blocks in leading the Ramblers to their third straight win.
Loyola dominated early and led, 18-4, with 12:35 left in the first half on its way to a 40-18 halftime lead. In the second half, consecutive scores from Marques Townes sparked an 8-0 surge that gave Loyola its largest lead of the day at 56-29.
Townes had 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists for Loyola (20-12). Lucas Williamson added 10 points.
Daniel Sackey had 11 points for the Crusaders (15-18). Jaume Sorolla added three blocks.
Loyola will face Bradley in the semifinals Saturday.
