A 62-year-old Woodstock man died in a crash Saturday on Route 120 near Thompson Road, the McHenry County Sheriff's Office announced in a news release Monday.

The McHenry County coroner identified the victim as Eberhard H. Biesenthal. He died of blunt force trauma to the chest and abdomen, according to the release.

The sheriff's office and Woodstock Fire Rescue District responded to the single-vehicle crash at 2:28 p.m. Saturday. The driver of a 2016 Subaru Forester had crashed into two trees off Route 120.

A preliminary investigation showed that the man had been driving north on Route 120 when he crossed into the southbound lane and hit the guardrail. He then crossed the road again and went off the road to the west, according to the release.

It is unknown why the car went off the road, officials said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor, according to the release.

The McHenry County coroner and McHenry County Sheriff's Office Major Crash Investigation Unit continue to investigate the incident.
