High school sports roundup for Tuesday, March 12

Huntley took two of the top three spots in four of the five field events and rolled to a big victory at the Fox Valley Conference Indoor Boys Track and Field Meet on Tuesday at Huntley’s fieldhouse.

The Red Raiders scored 150 points for first. Dundee-Crown (56), Jacobs (48) and Crystal Lake Central (47) were next.

Zach Fitzgerald won the long jump and was third in the triple jump. Josh Guyer won the triple jump and was third in the high jump.

Michael Benner won and Matthew Alpert was third in the pole vault. Alex Pitrone and Brad Walker took second and third in the shot put. Kevin Adams was third in the long jump.

Antonio Passarelli won the 60 and 200 meters, while Paul Kerber was second and third in those races.

Other individual champions were Jacobs’ Tommy Subaric (60 hurdles) and Zach Albrecht (1,600), McHenry’s Jessi Garcia (3,200) and Andy Maye (high jump), Hampshire’s Cam Reedy (400), Prairie Ridge’s Grant Jensen (800), Cary-Grove’s Jason Petko (shot put) and D-C’s Jason Miller (200).

GIRLS SOCCER

Jacobs 1, Guilford 0: At Rockford, Hannah Mohan scored in the first half as the Golden Eagles (1-0) defeated the Vikings in a nonconference game.

Beige Garza assisted on the goal for the Golden Eagles (1-0).

Huntley 0, Prospect 0: At Huntley, the Red Raiders played to a tie with the Knights in their season opener.

Jenna Franklin made six saves in goal for Huntley (0-0-1), while Alexis Kozak made two saves.

CL Central 10, Grant 0: At Fox Lake, Megan Wozniak, Kaitlin Gaunaurd and Samantha Sanders scored two goals apiece as the Tigers (1-1) rolled past the Bulldogs.

Abbey Kramer, Taylor Bittenbender, Natalie Ortiz and Grace Rokos also had goals for Central. Rokos, Bittenbender, Gaunaurd, Mary Potvin, Erica Novy, Nora Ryan and Emma Bolanowski all had assists for Central, which lost to Wauconda, 1-0, on Monday.

Neither Ryan nor Erica Milan was required to make a save in goal for Central. Eight goals were scored by players new on the varsity team this season.

Crystal Lake South 1, Grayslake North 0: At Grayslake, Emma Chudik scored a second-half goal off an assist from Bella Farrington to lift the Gators (1-0) to a nonconference win over the Knights.

South goalkeeper Julia Martin made four saves.

Cary-Grove 1, Lake Zurich 1: At Lake Zurich, Maggie Mason scored off Summer Curtis' assist as the Trojans (0-0-1) tied with the Bears in their nonconference game.

McKenna Sheehan made two saves in goal for C-G.
