High school boys basketball: Toussaint, three others get AP All-State honors

Johnsburg guard Zach Toussaint, who finished his career with 2,249 points, was voted to The Associated Press Class 3A All-State second team.

The Classes 3A and 4A lists were released Thursday afternoon. Three other local players were honored.

Richmond-Burton forward Jeff Jankowski made honorable mention in 3A, while Cary-Grove guard Beau Frericks and Crystal Lake Central center Alex Timmerman were honorable-mention picks in 4A.

Toussaint was named Northwest Herald Boys Basketball Player of the Year on Wednesday for the second year in a row. He averaged 23.8 points a game and hit 112 3-pointers while leading the Skyhawks to their second consecutive Class 3A regional championship.

Toussaint, a 6-foot guard, was joined on the All-State second team by fellow Kishwaukee River Conference player Patrick Mayfield, of Burlington Central. Mayfield and the Rockets knocked Johnsburg out in the Marengo Sectional semifinals last week. Toussaint will play at NCAA Division II West Texas A&M.

Jankowski, a 6-1 forward, averaged 23.2 points a game and set R-B’s single-season scoring record with 626 points.

Frericks, a 6-1 guard, averaged 19.4 points a game and hit 67 3s for the 21-8 Trojans, who had the fourth-most wins in school history.

Timmerman, a 6-9 center, finished his four-year varsity career with 1,603 points. He averaged 17.4 points and 9.2 rebounds a game while leading the Tigers to a 20-12 record and a share of the Fox Valley Conference championship. He will play at D-I Bucknell next year.
