To the Editor:
Dear overtaxed McHenry County property taxpayers, (the ones that are left), the question shouldn’t be should there be a tax rebate from the excessive $40 million fund balance that has accumulated at the Valley Hi Nursing Home, but how did it get there in the first place?
A $40 million fund balance accumulation is enough to cover operating costs for about four years. (Note: A government fund balance should be in the neighborhood of covering one year of operating costs.)
But there is good news! Jack Franks, chairman of the McHenry County Board, wants to correct a wrong. Franks is pushing for a $15 million tax rebate of the Valley Hi $40 million excessive reserve fund.
Thank you, Chairman Franks, you are doing what every elected official should be looking to do, and that is, “cut anything from anywhere we can.”
