Participants will learn techniques for conducting an effective prescribed burn at TLC’s Learn to Burn class on March 30.

Discover fire’s role in conserving prairies, woodlands and wetlands at the “Learn to Burn” training class hosted by The Land Conservancy of McHenry County from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 30 at Hennen Conservation Area in Woodstock.

Participants will receive detailed training related to prescribed burns by TLC’s restoration ecologist Melissa Grycan. Those attending will work indoors and outdoors and are encouraged to dress accordingly. A classroom training session will happen first, followed by an outdoor hands-on workshop.

Prescribed burns clear away dead brush and invasive species while ensuring healthy habitats. Safety equipment will be provided.

Attendees can register for the workshop at ConserveMC.org or by calling 815-337-9502. The fee for the workshop is $35 for Land Conservancy members and $50 for nonmembers.
