To the Editor:
Elizabeth Speros is a candidate for a two-year seat as a McHenry County College Trustee.
I would like to tell you what I know about her. If you sit in a room with Elizabeth when a serious discussion is going on, she is as attentive as a cat hunting a mouse. She is perceptive and focused and able to draw appropriate conclusions from the facts given.
In her profile, she says this about McHenry County College: The primary role of a community college is to be an affordable and accessible gateway to better jobs with higher earnings; a transition hub because of work fluidity and life changes; an open-door for second chances; and a quality educational institution with learning, dialogue and diversity at its core. Community colleges are, also, essential in reducing skyrocketing student loan burdens. In addition, Elizabeth has studied at MCC, so she has first-hand knowledge of this special campus.
Being a McHenry County College Trustee would be just another example of Elizabeth’s outreach to the community. Since 2003 she has volunteered at the Crystal Lake Food Pantry. She served as her church’s director for Kids Hope USA, a mentoring program with a local elementary school; and she has also been an election judge for a number of years.
Elizabeth Speros will be a new trustee with a new vision, carried out in a fiscally responsible way to taxpayers. Please vote on April 2; and when you do, cast a vote for Elizabeth Speros.
