McHenry’s Mireyah Macias scored in the 25th minute off an assist from Lauren Pearson as the Warriors defeated Harlem, 1-0, in their nonconference girls soccer game Monday in Machesney Park.
McHenry (1-1) got eight saves from goalkeeper Annie Bantner for the shutout.
Prairie Ridge 1, Buffalo Grove 1: At Crystal Lake, Nicki Anderson scored off Abby Ericksen’s assist in the 13th minute as the Wolves got a nonconference tie against Buffalo Grove.
Sam Gablenz made nine saves for Prairie Ridge (2-0-1).
Harvard 2, Grant 2: At Fox Lake, Alexia Posada scored two first-half goals as the Hornets (0-0-1) tied Grant in their nonconference game.
Both goals were unassisted. Goalkeeper Maria Mercado made seven saves for the Hornets.
Carmel 2, Cary-Grove 1: At Mundelein, Emma Hill struck out seven and allowed only three hits as the Trojans (0-1) lost a nonconference game to the Corsairs.
Carmel’s Sydney Schuda was tough on the C-G hitters, also striking out seven and giving up three hits. Jordan Swiatkowski’s two-run homer in the first was the difference for the Corsairs.
The Trojans scored in the fifth when Frankie Cruz walked, stole second, was bunted to third and scored on Gwenn Moran’s ground ball.
Palatine 10, Crystal Lake Central 6: At Palatine, Nate McLean scored two goals and had an assist as the Tigers (0-1) opened their season with a loss to the Pirates.
Mark Crowley had a goal and two assists, and Gavin Plonczynski added a goal and an assist. Ken Bland and Jason Christensen each had a goal, while Joey Trowbridge had an assist.
