Cary Travel Express moving back to downtown office

Owner said relocation required $100K investment

Six months ago, a fire displaced Cary Travel Express from its downtown office on 9 Jandus Road and forced employees to operate out of a suite at 20 N. First St.

But with renovations now complete, the travel agency is ready to move back into its old location.

To mark the occasion, a ribbon cutting has been scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on March 27.

The fire, which did not injure anyone, ruined a number of desks, furniture, computers, copiers and other supplies. Neelie Kruse, owner of Cary Travel Express, said that outside of building repairs, a $100,000 investment was required to get up and running again.

She had credited the Cary Fire Protection District and the other responding agencies to the fire for all of their hard work.

She also said the incident brought out the best of the Cary community and credited members of the community for donating desks and other supplies to make relocation efforts a little easier.

“Fortunately, people are very understanding,” Kruse said.

Kruse said because the business was established in the Cary community and most of the work is either done over the phone or through email, there was not a major impact to Cary Travel Express once it changed locations. She credited her team for springing into action after the fire to send out Facebook messages and emails to clients regarding the situation.

Signage also was placed at the Jandus Road office notifying passersby of the new location.
