A 28-year-old man remained at the McHenry County Jail on Tuesday afternoon after police said he sold cocaine to a confidential informant twice at his home, where officers later seized drugs and cash, court records show.

McHenry County sheriff’s deputies on Monday arrested Eric Hernandez, of the zero to 100 block of Hilltop Drive, Lake in the Hills.

Sometime within the past six weeks, police said Hernandez sold cocaine two times to a police informant, according to a motion that prosecutors filed in McHenry County court on Tuesday. It was not immediately clear exactly when the drug deals occurred. The drug deals reportedly took place at Hernandez’s home, which is within 500 feet of Lake in the Hills Elementary School, according to a criminal complaint. Students were present at the school when officers arrested Hernandez, court records show.

Should Hernandez come up with the $20,000 bail that would secure his release, he could be asked to prove he didn’t earn the money through drug sales.

The sheriff’s department used a warrant to search Hernandez’s property on Monday, according to the motion. Inside, officers found 11 small bags of cocaine, containing about 12 grams of the substance inside the man’s house and vehicle, prosecutors wrote. Police also found about 8 grams of marijuana, three digital scales and $349 cash, according to the motion.

The street value of the drugs was estimated to be $1,100.

McHenry County Judge Mark Gerhardt appointed the McHenry County Public Defender’s Office to represent Hernandez, who would face as many as 30 years in prison if he were convicted of the most serious charge, possession with intent to deliver cocaine.

Hernandez is scheduled for a bond hearing on Thursday.
