Crystal Lake Central is set to hire Joe Capalbo as its varsity boys basketball head coach, pending District 155 school board approval at Tuesday’s meeting.
Capalbo will take over for Rich Czeslawski, who resigned last month after 13 seasons.
A 2006 Central graduate, Capalbo coached freshman boys basketball at Cary-Grove this past season. He currently is serving as head coach for Crystal Lake Central co-op’s girls lacrosse team.
Capalbo, who teaches physical education and health at Cary Junior High School, played college basketball for two seasons at North Park University in Chicago. Capalbo previously coached boys and girls basketball at Fremd and Palatine.
Czeslawski’s teams were 170-198 in his 13 seasons. The Tigers were 20-12 this season and shared the Fox Valley Conference championship with Crystal Lake South.
Central is set to graduate 10 seniors, including Bucknell-bound center Alex Timmerman along with fellow starters Lucas Seegers, Will Welder, Evan Cassell and C.J. Lerum. The Tigers also will lose top reserve Deonta Dungey to graduation.
Messages for Capalbo and Crystal Lake Central athletic director Jeff Aldridge were not immediately returned Friday.
