To the Editor:
I am a 44-year resident of McHenry County. I have been to the McHenry County Fair pretty much every one of those 44 years. I know I am not the first one to say I am appalled by the McHenry County Fair board’s decision to have Ted Nugent be a performer at this year’s event.
In response to “backlash” by people like me, Nugent wrote, “Only liars and America-hating scumbags have a problem with me. My spirit irritates their demons!” I think that quote alone makes it more than obvious why he should not be a performer at this year’s event.
Does the McHenry County Fair board really feel this county still is so far to the right that there wouldn’t be outrage? I think it is obvious by our election of Lauren Underwood to Congress and of Jack Franks as McHenry County Board chairman that they should know better.
There are claims by the fair board that Nugent’s coming is not political. I say that having him here is purposely political to try to force an overly obvious right-wing agenda. Here is his quote again: “Only liars and America-hating scumbags have a problem with me. My spirit irritates their demons!” What is not political about this quote?
Friends, you are welcome to call me pretty much anything you like, but you will never call me an America-hating scumbag. If this is what Ted Nugent thinks of me, then it is obvious the McHenry County Fair board feels the same way.
I love this country. I always have and always will.
