Woodstock police are investigating after a woman's body was found Tuesday afternoon in an apartment at the Silver Creek Apartment complex, Deputy Chief Ray Lanz said.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene about 1:30 p.m. for a report of a person found dead, Lanz said. He would not comment on the circumstances surrounding the death.
"We were dispatched here originally for a report of an unresponsive woman," Lanz said. "Officers and paramedics arrived [and] they did make entry into the apartment, where they did find an unresponsive woman who was in fact deceased. ... At this time we do not know a cause of death, and that won't be determined until after the medical examination is done."
Lanz said police were also dispatched to a second service call in the area around the same time as the call for the death investigation. He wouldn't say what that call was or if it was related to the death investigation. He said Woodstock Community Unit School District 200 was notified of the situation.
McHenry County Sheriff's Office deputies were also on scene at the apartment complex, located east of Route 47.
Police were interviewing neighbors in the apartment complex and nearby homes for hours after the death report.
"At this point we still have an active investigation going on," Lanz said Tuesday afternoon.
He said the investigation was turned over to the McHenry County Investigation Assistance Team (MIAT).
"At this time there is no danger to the public," Lanz said, adding that apartment residents will be allowed to enter their units.
Lanz said the investigation is "a marathon not a sprint" but more details could be released Tuesday night.
"We want to make sure that we take it 100 percent seriously and do everything we can," he said.
He said he could not comment on if anything suspicious was found in the unit.
