The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago will offer Crystal Lake families the opportunity to join a workshop for parents to explore digital safety and address concerns surrounding how to raise children in a connected world. Google’s Be Internet Awesome workshops will be offered on Saturday at Sage YMCA, which is one of 18 YMCA locations across the Chicago area offering this program as part of the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at 701 Manor Road, Crystal Lake.
Healthy Kids Day is a national initiative of the YMCA designed to promote active minds and healthy bodies for children and families.
The workshop will feature discussion-based, parent-to-parent conversations about how to help children be safe and smart online. Families will learn to teach their children how to communicate responsibly, understand real from fake in the face of phishing and scams, build strong passwords, be positive and kind online, talk about questionable content with their family, and why building healthy tech habits is important. The workshops give parents access to free bilingual resources, answers to questions about online safety and digital citizenship, and information to help facilitate discussions at home.
Parents can register for the free training online at http://register.ymcachicago.org (search for “Be Internet Awesome”) or contact the Sage YMCA for details.
All facilities will have Spanish and English materials. Child care will be available at each site during the session.
