The National Weather Service is warning of flooding at the Fox River in Algonquin. 

A flood warning issued Tuesday morning said the Fox River at the Algonquin Tailwater, the area directly downstream from the dam, will be affected. The river was at 9.2 feet at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the weather service. Flood stage is at 9.5 feet. 

Minor flooding is in the forecast. The river is expected to rise to nearly 9.8 feet by Friday afternoon, the weather service predicts. 

On Tuesday, there was a 20% chance of showers in the late afternoon in McHenry County. Wednesday there is a 90% chance of rain, according to the weather service. More rain and a chance of thunderstorms are expected Thursday. 

Drivers should turn around if they encounter a flooded road, according to the weather service.
