Girls basketball: Woodstock to hire former MCC coach Rick Peterson

Former McHenry County College women’s basketball coach Rick Peterson is set to become the next varsity girls basketball coach at Woodstock, pending approval at Tuesday’s Woodstock School District 200 Board meeting.

Additionally,Woodstock girls track and field coach Meghan Brown is resigning after two seasons.

Peterson, who is an employee of Shaw Media, coached MCC for two seasons from 1987 to ‘89. He led the Scots to a 41-10 record and the program’s first Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference title.

Peterson also played basketball at MCC from 1979 to ‘81. The McHenry High School graduate was inducted into the MCC Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017.

Peterson will take over for Collin Kalamatas, who coached the Blue Streaks for one season. Woodstock finished 6-25 under Kalamatas and graduated five seniors: Nichole Piquette, Anna Rowan, Kamryn Bogott, Madeline Harrah and Amy Keyzer.
