Aj Henkle drove in two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday to lift Huntley past Belvidere North, 4-2, in the Class 4A DeKalb Regional championship.
Henkle’s two-run single to center field scored Evan Tocmo and Zach Model. Michael Talesky had bunted both runners into scoring position after they had reached base to start the inning.
Henkle also hit a triple and finished with three RBIs.
Starter Kyle Maurer pitched
42/3 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Davis Pasco allowed one hit in 21/3 scoreless innings to earn the win.
The victory sends the Red Raiders (28-9) to the McHenry Sectional, where they will play Cary-Grove in a semifinal at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Barrington 5, McHenry 4: At the
Class 4A Dundee-Crown Regional, the Warriors’ season came to a close with a loss to Barrington in the regional championship.
Jake Evans hit a sacrifice fly for McHenry (23-14) and hit a solo home run. Joe Kaminski went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Mark Winter knocked in one run.
Kaminski pitched five innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks. He struck out eight.
Cary-Grove 12, Streamwood 2 (6 inn.): At the Class 4A Grant Regional in Fox Lake, the Trojans scored six runs in the third inning to break open the regional title. Jack Thompson hit a three-run single in the inning.
LJ Waco hit a three-run home run in the sixth and finished the game with four RBIs. C-G (22-13) advances to face Huntley at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the McHenry Sectional.
Hampshire 5, Hononegah 3: At the Class 4A Harlem Regional in Machesney Park, Matt Jachec went 2 for 3 with a home run in Hampshire’s victory. Caden Pyszka went 2 for 2 with a triple and two runs scored.
Logan Nespor pitched five innings for the Whip-Purs (19-14), allowing three runs, one earned. He struck out one and walked one. Dylan Petrey threw two scoreless innings in relief to earn the save.
Hampshire advances to face Barrington at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the McHenry Sectional semifinals.
Crystal Lake South 12, Vernon Hills 0 (5 inn.): At the Class 3A Crystal Lake South Regional, the Gators (23-10) scored eight times in the first inning en route to the regional title.
Beiker Fuentes doubled, homered and walked once to finish with four RBIs and three runs scored. Kyle Hetherington was 1 for 2 with two RBIs and two walks. Nick DiBenedetto went 2 for 2 with an RBI. Evan Jewson drove in two runs scored.
Jacob Bimbi struck out eight and gave up two hits in four innings. Fuentes recorded three strikeouts to finish the game in the fifth inning.
Prairie Ridge 8, Antioch 0: At the Class 3A Prairie Ridge Regional, Alex Powers hit a home run and drove in four runs on a 2 for 3 day. Prairie Ridge (27-9) advanced to face Crystal Lake South at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Grayslake Central Sectional.
Keegan Garis went 2 for 3 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Ryan Goudschaal pitched 41/3 innings in relief, allowing only three hits. He struck out seven and walked one.
Carmel 10, Richmond-Burton 7: At the Class 3A Richmond-Burton Regional, the Rockets’ comeback fell short after scoring five runs in the seventh inning.
R-B’s Dalton Wood hit a three-run home run in the seventh. Cody Lillge drove in one run in the inning on a single and went 2 for 4 for the game.
Griffin Taylor went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Chase Duncan went 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI. R-B finishes the season 17-15.
Grayslake Central 8, Prairie Ridge 5: At the Class 3A Vernon Hills Regional, No. 3-seeded Grayslake Central scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to erase a 4-2 deficit and beat the No. 11 Wolves in the final.
Trailing 2-0 after the first, Prairie Ridge senior Kylie Leverenz hit a two-out single in the third to tie the game. Jillian Minutillo and Nichole Kiddy both had RBI hits in the fourth to give the Wolves a 4-2 lead.
Leverenz finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Kiddy added two hits and a run scored. Emmie Farnam and Madi O’Brien each had a hit and a run. Prairie Ridge finishes the season 8-18.
Grayslake Central will play Marian Central at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Wauconda Sectional semifinals.
Antioch 12, Johnsburg 0 (5 inn.): At the Class 3A Antioch Regional, Adriana Montewska recorded three of the Skyhawks’ four hits in the championship loss to the top-seeded Sequoits. Antioch had 10 hits, scoring three runs in the first and nine runs in the fourth.
Montewska went 3 for 3 with a double for the No. 9-seeded Skyhawks. Sedona Pecucci had Johnsburg’s other hit. Addison Mass suffered the loss, striking out two in four innings. Abby Pyburn drove in four runs for the Sequoits. Johnsburg finishes the season 13-15.
Antioch advances to play No. 2-seeded Marengo in the Wauconda Sectional semifinals at 4:30 Tuesday.
