A Kane County judge on Wednesday convicted a 37-year-old Carpentersville man of sexually assaulting a child he knew.

Judge Donald M. Tegeler Jr. found Jesus Bermudez, of the 100 block of Hook Road, Carpentersville, guilty of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony, according to a news release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

In 2005, Bermudez sexually assaulted the victim, who was younger than 13 years old at the time, Kane County State’s Attorneys Matthew Rodgers and Debra Bree said. Bermudez knew the child, prosecutors said.

Bermudez is expected to be sentenced Aug. 15. He faces between six and 30 years in prison and must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.

The Kane County Child Advocacy Center investigated the case, according to the news release.
