Letter: Not Carlos Acosta's fault

To the Editor:

As a professional social worker, I take issue with Rep. David McSweeney’s comments published in your newspaper on June 14 regarding Illinois Department of Children and Family Services caseworker Carlos Acosta. To suggest that Acosta should not be in public service is absurd.

It was not Acosta who was responsible for the death of AJ Freund. As a society, we are all responsible. All of our systems failed this family, including those who make our laws, the court system, child welfare, drug treatment, mental health, religious community, police, health care and AJ’s own neighbors and extended family.
