To the Editor:
“A society will be judged by how it treats it elderly.” (McHenry Township Senior Advisory Committee: mchenrytownship.com). I would modify that statement to include the disabled.
As a volunteer for our food pantry (FISH), I see our clients rely on the bus service regularly so they can simply put food on their tables and feed their families. It appears to me that trustees Anderson, Rakestraw and Verr have demonstrated by their vote, a lack of empathy for those in our community who most need our support.
I personally have not seen them spend time at FISH and observe or speak to those who depend on the service of the township bus. I suggest they do so and then rethink their decision and consider how they/township will be judged in their treatment of the elderly and disabled.
