Lake in the Hills police to host National Night Out cookout Aug. 10

The Lake in the Hills Police Department is hosting a National Night Out Community Cookout on Aug. 10.

The event, which aims to show the community stands stronger together against crime, will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Irv Floress Safety Education Center, 1109 Crystal Lake Road, according to a news release.

The event is free and will feature a Flight For Life helicopter and other police and fire vehicles, a tour of the police station and a live K-9 demo presented by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

Attendees also will have a chance to meet “PC” the Patrol Car Robot, try on “drunk” goggles and test out the police simulation trailer. Participants also can meet the tactical bike and traffic units and members of the multijurisdiction SWAT team, according to the news release.

Free hot dogs will be offered.

The nationwide event is happening Aug. 6; however, the police department opted to host its own event on a Saturday to accommodate more families, according to the release.

The schedule is subject to change because of emergency calls and weather. The first police department tour will start about 11:30 a.m., and the second will start about 12:30 p.m. The Flight for Life helicopter will land about 12:30 p.m. and take off about 1 p.m. The K-9 demo will start about 1 p.m.
