A Woodstock woman was sentenced to prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to possessing cocaine during a March 2018 drug bust.
Daisy Cazares cried as she told a McHenry County Judge that she has taken responsibility for her actions.
"I'm not proud of what I have done," Cazares said.
Judge Robert Wilbrandt sentenced Cazares to nine years in prison after accepting the 35-year-old's plea deal Wednesday morning. In exchange for her guilty plea to possession with intent to deliver cocaine, prosecutors dismissed additional charges against Cazares, including multiple counts of cocaine possession.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force arrested Cazares on March 21, 2018. Following a two-month investigation, officers seized about 7 ounces of cocaine and more than $14,000 cash from her home in the 900 block of Quill Lane, police have said.
Wilbrandt made a recommendation that Cazares be sent to a prison where she will have access to substance abuse treatment and counseling, although where Cazares is placed is ultimately up to the Illinois Department of Corrections.
"I certainly hope that you will learn something," Wilbrandt said. "These controlled substances are things that can and do ruin lives. Hopefully yours won't be ruined forever."
