A Minnesota man was sentenced Friday to 14 years in prison in connection with his 2017 arrest on felony cocaine possession charges.

Michael G. Briley, 54, accepted a deal from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office and pleaded guilty to possession of 400 to 900 grams of cocaine. In exchange for Briley's guilty plea, prosecutors dismissed an additional charge of possession with intent to deliver, records show. The Class X offense typically is punishable by as many as 30 years in prison.

Illinois State Police troopers arrested Briley, of the 1100 block of North Fourth Street, Mankato, Minnesota, after a traffic stop.

On Aug. 31, 2017, officers pulled over a vehicle on Interstate 90, according to a news release from the state's attorney's office. Briley, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was traveling from Chicago to Minnesota and had less than 1 pound of cocaine in his possession, the release stated.

Two other people who were in the car at the time did not receive felony drug charges, according to a motion prosecutors filed Aug. 2.
