A Crystal Lake man received probation Thursday after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a girl whom he knew in 2017.
Jorge Milan accepted a deal from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office and pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse – a felony typically punishable by three to seven years in prison.
Milan, however, will serve two years of probation in addition to registering as a sex offender.
In exchange for Milan’s guilty plea, prosecutors dismissed more serious charges, including four Class X counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.
If the case had gone to trial and Milan were convicted of one count of predatory criminal sexual assault, he would have faced as many as 30 years in prison.
Crystal Lake police arrested Milan in August 2018 after receiving allegations that he inappropriately touched a child between August and December 2017, according to a criminal complaint.
Milan, of the 700 block of Northampton Drive, must undergo sexual offender treatment as a condition of his probation, public records show. He also is barred from having any contact with the victim.
