Arrest made, victim identified, in fatal Crystal Lake motorcycle crash

Crystal Lake police have made an arrest in a fatal hit and run crash at the intersection of Virginia Road and Berkshire Drive Tuesday night.

Interim McHenry County coroner John Miller said that George Klinger, 53, of Algonquin, was killed in the crash.

Miller said a cause of death was not yet available. Klinger’s autopsy is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. Thursday. No other information on Klinger was available.

Evidence found at the scene led to the arrest of 53-year-old Crytal Lake woman, Carolyn A. Tyrell, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department on Wednesday morning.

Police responded to the intersection at 7:37 p.m. for a crash with injuries, where responders identified a man and woman who had been thrown from a motorcycle they were riding, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department.

The man was taken to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital and later died.

The woman was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries.

An initial investigation found that the motorcycle was traveling south on Virginia Road when it collided with a red sedan at the Berkshire Drive intersection. Police said the sedan then fled the scene, traveling west.

Carolyn A. Tyrrell, 53, of Crystal Lake, was arrested about 7:50 p.m. on probable cause of leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash, a Class 1 felony. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges against Tyrrell are expected.

Crystal Lake’s Accident Investigation Team examined the scene and collected evidence while the road was closed.
