A tornado warning was in effect for portions of southeastern McHenry and Lake County until 7:45 p.m. Wednesday evening.

This included Cary, Island Lake, Wauconda and Waukegan. The warning started about 6:53 p.m. According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Wauconda.

It was moving 30 mph. McHenry and Lake were also under a hazardous weather outlook Wednesday night.

This included an elevated thunderstorm risk, with an associated limited risk of hail, flooding and excessive heat.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said on its Facebook page Wednesday evening that it did not receive reports of major damage or injuries from the storm.

The department told residents to stay away and call for assistance if they see a downed wire.
