A fire damaged a Lakewood home Saturday, fire officials said.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded about noon to the 300 block of Richmond Lane after receiving a report of a structure fire, according to a news release from the department.
Flames were visible from outside the home adjacent to the natural gas service meter. No one was home at the time, according to the department.
Fire crews extinguished the flames on the outside before going into the home to check for fire inside.
The fire had extended to the first-floor laundry room, and smoke was visible throughout the first floor and attic, according to the department.
Nicor Gas and ComEd both responded to the scene, where Nicor found an underground gas leak.
Lakewood’s building department also responded, but a damage estimate was not yet available Saturday evening.
No one was injured, according to the department.
Crystal Lake fire investigators are working with Nicor to determine a cause of the fire.
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District, Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Fire Department and Lakewood police assisted at the scene.
