High school girls volleyball: Huntley defeats Hononegah to reach sectional final

Huntley’s Taylor Jakubowski had nine digs, six kills and 26 assists for the Red Raiders in a 25-14, 20-25, 25-16 victory against Hononegah in the Class 4A Dundee-Crown Sectional on Monday in Carpentersville.

The Red Raiders (33-5) will play St. Charles East in the sectional final at 6 p.m. Wednesday. It will be a rematch of last year's Huntley Sectional final, in which the Saints ended Huntley's 22-match winning streak with a three-set victory.

Josie Schmitendorf had 19 digs and two aces for the Red Raiders on Monday. Kylie Jenkins contributed nine digs and seven kills. Emma Konie added nine kills and two aces.

On Wednesday, Huntley will try to win its first volleyball sectional since the 2001 season. The Red Raiders won seven Class A sectional titles between 1990 and 2001.
