Harvard's Haily Hill scored on a buzzer-beating layup to lead the Hornets to their 10th win of the season Wednesday with a 33-31 victory over Willows Academy in Des Plaines.
Hill finished with a team-high nine points for the Hornets, who trailed, 25-17, entering the fourth quarter. Jade Bailey tossed in eight points for Harvard.
Burlington Central 51, Hampshire 49: At Hampshire, the Rockets stayed in sole possession of second in the Fox Valley Conference with a win over the Whips, the defending FVC champions.
The teams were tied, 37-37, after three. Elana Wells had eight of her game-high 24 points in the fourth quarter for Burlington (14-2, 6-1). Wells finished with four 3s.
Kat Schmidt tossed in 16 points and eight rebounds for the Rockets. Kelby Bannerman scored 21 points, including nine in the fourth, to lead the Whip-Purs (9-9, 4-2). Alyssa Cork had nine points on three 3s, and Katie Del Re added six points.
Burlington remains a game behind FVC leader Dundee-Crown in the loss column. D-C (12-2, 6-0) has played one less game.
Marian Central 45, Johnsburg 33: At Woodstock, Janelle Allen scored 21 points for the Hurricanes (8-14) in a nonconference win over the Skyhawks. Julia Hogel scored 12 points and had two 3s for Marian.
Molly Wetzel led Johnsburg (6-10) with eight points, Kaitlyn Owen added seven points, and Mackenzie Straulin had six.
Crystal Lake South 39, Richmond-Burton 31: At Richmond, Allie Schoen had 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Brooke Kuffel had 11 points and nine rebounds in the nonconference win for the Gators. Emily Rich tossed in eight points for South (9-8).
Peyton Bannon led all scorers with 16 points, and Rachel Baker had 11 for R-B (4-13).
Marengo 61, North Boone 36: At Marengo, Jennifer Heinberg hit seven 3-pointers and scored 25 points for the Indians (10-7) in the nonconference win over the Vikings. Heinberg had two 3s in the first quarter, two in the third and three in the fourth.
Gracie Gentleman scored 10 points for Marengo, Adriana Georgiades had nine, and Alexis Kunde tossed in eight.
Woodstock North 42, Lakes 18: At Woodstock, Kaitlyn Ford had 10 points for the Thunder (11-6) in a nonconference win over the Eagles. Kirsten Morey chipped in nine points.
Cary-Grove 58, McHenry 34: At McHenry, the Trojans (13-2, 6-0) stayed unbeaten in the FVC with a victory over the Warriors (3-10, 1-5). Beau Frericks had 24 points and three 3s to lead the Trojans. Frank Jakubicek added eight points.
With Hampshire's loss to Burlington Central, 54-40, on Wednesday, C-G moved into sole possession of first place in the FVC.
Huntley 72, Crystal Lake Central 41: At Crystal Lake, Uchenna Egekeze scored 19 points to lead the Red Raiders (12-3, 5-1) past the Tigers (7-8, 2-4) in their FVC game.
Ryan Sroka tossed in 15 points, Ben Ahmer had 10, and Ryan Crosby had seven. Eleven players scored in the victory for Huntley.
Jacobs 48, Prairie Ridge 43: At Algonquin, the Golden Eagles (10-5, 4-2) held off the Wolves (2-14, 0-6) in their FVC game. Robert Pennel had 13 points and nailed four 3s for Jacobs, James Hayes had 12 points, and Zach Leahy and Andrew Balkcom had eight points apiece.
Mason Loucks led Prairie Ridge with 13 points. Connor Lydon tossed in 12.
Grayslake Central 46, Johnsburg 34: At Grayslake, the Skyhawks (5-10) lost to the Rams in nonconference play. Joey Comstock scored 10 points, and Dylan Schmidt, Stan Thill and Keefe Martin each had six points on two 3s.
Round Lake 61, Richmond-Burton 51: At Round Lake, the Rockets (5-7) lost to the Panthers in their nonconference game. Round Lake outscored R-B, 18-9, in the fourth quarter.
Harvard 48, Johnsburg 24: At Johnsburg, Brian Hernandez (106 pounds), Brett Lovell (138) and Damyan Michel (145) had pins in the Kishwaukee River Conference dual win for the Hornets (19-3). Lovell's pin was in the first period.
Gabe Sanchez (182) and Ivan Hernandez (220) won by decision for Harvard. Braeden Hess (285) had a pin for the Skyhawks. Also winning for Johnsburg were Daniel Calhoun (152), Kyle Rasper (160), Ethan Shedbalkar (170) and Justin Peake (195).
Huntley 2,947, Johnsburg 2,591: At Raymond's Bowl in Johnsburg, Jerik Alcasid rolled a 672 series to lead the Red Raiders to the victory.
Marengo 3,056, Elgin 2,349: At Glo-Bowl in Marengo, Chase Vogt led the Indians with a 617 series, including games of 174, 242 and 201 in the win. Kyle Peters had a 531 series for Marengo.
