High school sports roundup for Friday, Jan. 10

Huntley beat Prairie Ridge, 44-28, on Friday in Crystal Lake to give girls basketball coach Steve Raethz his 350th career victory.

Raethz, who is 350-259 in 20-plus seasons at Huntley, ranks third among area girls basketball coaches in career wins. He trails only Dundee-Crown's Joe Komaromy (450 wins) and Hampshire's Milt Awe (384).

Carley Faulkner had 16 points to lead the Red Raiders (9-8, 5-3 Fox Valley Conference). Ashley Guazzo and Kamsi Nwogu both had 11. Emma Kay had eight points to lead Prairie Ridge (7-10, 2-5), and Karsen Karlblom had seven.

McHenry 63, Burlington Central 58: At Burlington, Marissa Hanley scored 16 points and was one of four Warriors to reach double figures in an FVC win over the the Rockets. Ashley Wachter had 14 points and hit four 3-pointers, Ava Interrante had 14 points and hit 8 of 9 free throws, and Katie Beyer had 12 points.

McHenry (17-3, 5-2) outscored Burlington, 22-17, in the fourth after the teams were tied at 41. Elana Wells (24 points) Kat Schmidt (21 points) both had four 3s for the Rockets (14-3, 6-2).

Crystal Lake South 59, Crystal Lake Central 54: At Crystal Lake, Kyra Swartz had a team-high 19 points and sank six 3s as the visiting Gators (10-8, 4-3) held off the Tigers (4-13, 1-6) in their FVC game. Emily Rich scored 11 points, Allie Schoen had 10 points, and Brooke Kuffel had nine points and 12 rebounds.

Central's Nora Ryan led all scorers with 20 points, and Paige Keller had 16 points and made 7 of 8 free throws.

Marengo 53, Harvard 40: At Harvard, Gracie Gentleman had 12 points for the Indians (11-7, 3-0) in a KRC win over the Hornets. Jennifer Heinberg and Kierra Morris had 11 points apiece, and Addie Johnson and Adriana Georgiades each had nine. Heinberg made two 3s, giving her 66 for the season.

Lauren Shafer scored 15 points to lead Harvard (10-9, 0-3).

Woodstock North 51, Woodstock 43: At Woodstock, Lacey Schaffter had 13 points for the visiting Thunder in a KRC win against the Blue Streaks (6-11, 2-1). North moved to 12-6 and 3-0 in the KRC and is tied with Marengo for first place.

Colette Jones, Kaitlyn Ford, and Abby Hartmann all scored nine points for North.

Erin Lockwood had 20 points for Woodstock, Emma Brand had nine points, and Juel Mecklenburg tossed in eight.

Hampshire 52, Cary-Grove 41: At Hampshire, Kelby Bannerman had 14 points, and Alyssa Cork had 10 points to lead the Whip-Purs (10-9, 5-2) past the Trojans (7-9. 0-7) in FVC play.

Paige Hoscheit scored 14 points and had three 3s for C-G, Emily Lukowski had 11 points.

Dundee-Crown 53, Jacobs 33: At Algonquin, the Chargers (13-2, 7-0) stayed perfect in the FVC with the win over the Golden Eagles (4-12, 1-6).

Johnsburg 64, Richmond-Burton 41: At Richmond, the Skyhawks (7-10, 1-2) beat the Rockets (4-14, 0-3) in their KRC game.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marengo 50, Harvard 48: At Harvard, the Indians held off the Hornets to win the KRC opener for both teams. Aiden Smith and Matt Volkening both scored 16 points for Marengo (13-2, 1-0), and Jonah Pace tossed in eight points. Smith nailed five 3s and Volkening had three.

Damon Mueller scored 12 points to lead Harvard (2-10, 0-1). Dylan Perkins added 10, and Austin Kohley and Christian Rojas had nine apiece.

Richmond-Burton 55, Johnsburg 46: At Richmond, Logan Hutson scored 18 points for the Rockets (7-7, 1-0) in the KRC win over the Skyhawks (5-11, 1-1). Tyler Anderson had 10 points and Jake Barthel added eight points.

Joey Comstock led all scorers with 23 points for Johnsburg. Keefe Martin had 12 on four 3s.

Carmel 81, Marian Central 56: At Woodstock, Jakub Baranski scored 23 points and hit three 3s to lead the Hurricanes (2-13, 0-4) in their East Suburban Catholic Conference loss to the Corsairs.

Ben Moscinski added 11 points for the Hurricanes.

South Beloit 54, Alden-Hebron 36: At South Beloit, the Giants (3-7, 0-2) lost the Northeastern Athletic Conference game to the Sobos.

WRESTLING

Harvard 33, Marengo 32: At Harvard, the Hornets won the KRC dual with the help of an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against the Indians, costing Marengo a point.

Bryce Fiegel (113), Nik Jimenez (132), Chase Bischke (145) and Nate Rosas (195) each had pins for Harvard. Jimenez recorded his pin in 24 seconds.

Ivan Rosas (120), Eric Parra (160) and Damyan Michel each won by decision for Harvard. Sebastian Palka (170), Michael Macias (220) and Mason Feldt (285) added first-period pins for Marengo, and Ethan Struck (106), Connor Ray (126) and Jake Doyle (138) won by decision.

GIRLS BOWLING

Grant 2,302, Johnsburg 2,096: At Raymond's Bowl in Johnsburg, Kassidee Beasle had a 449 series for the Skyhawks in the loss to the Bulldogs. Andie Fisher had a high game of 174.
