Marian Central crowned five individual wrestling champions Saturday to claim the top spot out of 17 teams at Geneva's Jim Newbill Invitational on Saturday in Geneva.
Placing first for the Hurricanes were Elon Rodriguez (120 pounds), Daniel Valeria (132), Bryce Shelton (138), Kaden Randazzo (160) and Dylan Connell (170). Marian finished first with 256.5 points, more than 100 points ahead of runner-up Addison Trail (149).
Nick Davidson (113) and Niko Lopez (182) were runners-up. Charlie Fitzgerald (106), Scott Burke (126), Joe Miller (195) and Joey Pawlak (220) were third, and Hugh Holian (145) was sixth.
Valeria (26-0), Shelton (25-0) and Connell (25-0) remained undefeated.
Sycamore Invitational: At Sycamore, Marengo's Jake Doyle was first in the 132-pound weight class as the Indians were 12th out of 16 teams. Yorkville took first with 337.5 points, Downers Grove South (303.5) was second, and Sycamore (294.5) was third. Marengo had 169 points. Hampshire (125.5) was 13th, and Woodstock North (124.5) was 14th.
Woodstock North's Isaiah Vela (138) was second, Marengo's Ethan Struck (106) was third, Woodstock North's Conor Reyes (113) and Henry Goetz (160) placed fourth, and Hampshire's Anthony Marlett (120) was sixth.
Leyden Invitational:At Franklin Park, Jacobs' Jake Harrier (138), Alex Epstein (145) and Ryan Golnick (220) won individual titles as the Golden Eagles finished third as a team.
South Beloit 54, Alden-Hebron 36: At South Beloit, Mikey Ellison scored 11 points to lead the Giants in a Northeastern Athletic Conference loss to the Sobos. Tom Webber and Tyler Cunningham had eight points each for A-H (3-7, 0-2 NAC).
