A former Huntley High School baseball player must register as a sex offender for the next 10 years after he pleaded guilty Wednesday to grooming an underage girl to engage in sexual conduct.

Kyle J. Morgan, 20, accepted a plea offer from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office and pleaded guilty to a felony grooming charge in exchange for a two-year probation sentence. Illinois law defines grooming as communicating with a child in a way that’s meant to lure or entice a child in an effort to commit a sex offense.

Morgan, a former starting pitcher for Huntley High School’s baseball team, helped advance the Red Raiders to the Class 4A state championship game about a month before he was arrested in a police sting.

Officers with the Huntley Police Department arrested Morgan in July 2018 after he used the app Snapchat in an attempt to meet with a 13-year-old girl and engage in sexual activity, police said at the time.

The girl’s parents reported the communication to police and allowed officers to arrange a meet-up with Morgan. On July 7, 2018, Morgan arrived at the agreed location – Ol’ Timers Park in Huntley, where he was met by police instead of the girl.

As a result of his guilty plea, Morgan is required to register as a sex offender for the next 10 years. He also is barred from having any contact with the girl and must submit to drug, alcohol and marijuana testing, McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge ordered.
