Fox River Grove is a place where gladiators are made.
At least one gladiator. Former resident Evan Dollard, a 2000 graduate of Cary-Grove High School was named the male champion Sunday of the NBC reality series “American Gladiators.”
The 25-year-old retail manager, who now lives in Chicago, won $100,000 and a Toyota Sequoia for his accomplishment. Monica Carlson was the winner of the female competition.
Becky Cassidy, a McHenry resident and former classmate of Dollard’s, said she was surprised to see him on the show. The 5 foot, 10 inch tall Dollard weighs in at 160 pounds.
“He did awesome,” Cassidy said. “He went up that wall like a monkey. I never saw anyone go up that fast.”
