‘Mighty Kickers’ helps children learn soccer

CARY – The Cary Park District will conduct “Mighty Kickers” to introduce children to soccer.

Children will run, kick, and learn the game in a program that allows them to release energy, make friends and keep moving. Players will be placed on a team before the first practice. Each participant will receive a T-shirt.

The program is for boys and girls age 3 or 4 and meets from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturdays, April 26 to May 31, at the Lions Park soccer fields. Registration is $40 for residents and $60 for nonresidents.

Scrapbook enthusiasts can help good cause

McHENRY – Scrapbookers can support breast-cancer research at “Crop for a Cure” from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 6 at The Church of Holy Apostles.

The day is designed for scrapbook enthusiasts of all skill levels. Proceeds will benefit the Holy Apostles Ladies Organization and the Holy Apostles Pink Ribbon Angels Team, which will participate in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Chicago.

The $35 registration fee includes lunch, snacks, a free gift, and a raffle ticket. Raffle items include scrapbooking items, a one-hour massage, Longaberger basket, Simply Homemade gift certificate, and a bath and body basket.

Free demonstrations and massages will be offered. Classes will be offered for $5 each for both beginners and advanced scrapbookers.

Moonlight Scrapbook Designs will have products available for purchase or order. All attendees must be age 12 or older.

Kids to stage WonderWalk

CARY – KinderCare kids from Cary will stage their own mini WonderWalk on Friday to raise money for the March of Dimes.

Center Director Heather Strauts said about 30 children ages 14 months to 11 years were expected to participate, and one of the goals of the project is to teach the students that helping others is fun.

The children will participate in various activities throughout the walk such as a bean-bag toss and water station during the event at 10 a.m. Friday at 324 Crystal St.

Strauts said that the center hoped to raise $1,200 for the March of Dimes this year through various efforts.

Musical to be presented

McHENRY – The McHenry High School Theatre Department will present Stephen Schwartz’s “Children of Eden” next month.

The musical retells the stories in Genesis and is based on a book by John Caird.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. April 11, 12, 18 and 19, and 2 p.m. April 13. They all will be at the West Campus Theatre, 4727 W. Crystal Lake Road, McHenry.

Tickets are $6 for students and $8 for adults. They are available at the door or by calling 815-385-7077.
