CRYSTAL LAKE – A West Dundee man was in stable condition this morning after being airlifted Tuesday from the scene of a motorcycle crash.

The single-vehicle crash occurred about 4:26 p.m. on Route 31 in Crystal Lake south of Rakow Road. Police closed Route 31 for the helicopter to land. The highway was reopened by 5:30 p.m.

The driver, Jonathan E. Nello, 29, 1410 Grand Pointe Blvd., was traveling south on Route 31 when he lost control of his 2007 Honda motorcycle, said Sgt. Dan Hulata of the Crystal Lake Police Department.

The reason for the accident was not known. Hulata described the injuries as not life threatening but said one of the cyclist’s hands was severely injured. Nello was flown to Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee, and his condition was unknown.

The driver fell near the Whispering Hills Nursery and skidded to a stop near Berquist Marine Center, Hulata said. Parts of the orange motorcycle and the driver’s apparel were scattered along Route 31.

No citations have been issued, but the Crystal Lake Police Department continues to investigate the accident.
