West Nile found in mosquito trap

LAKE IN THE HILLS – The county’s first case of West Nile virus was discovered in Lake in the Hills this week.

A mosquito trap monitored by state health officials tested positive for the virus during routine tests, said Debra Quackenbush of the McHenry County Department of Health.

Both county and state health departments test mosquito traps for the virus weekly from May to mid-October, she said.

So far this year, four human cases of the virus have been discovered statewide. None have been identified in McHenry County.
