Army paratroopers to deliver game ball at Harvard's gameHARVARD – U.S. Army paratroopers will land at Harvard High School's Dan Horne Field and deliver the ball for the Friday night football game. "Harvard Hornets and Marengo Indians have one of the longest-standing athletic rivalries in the state," said Bill Clow, an administrator with Harvard District 50. "Having he Golden Knights deliver the game ball is a pretty good way to start a high school football game." The U.S. Army Golden Knights unit was formed more than 44 years ago and is a precision parachute team from Fort Bragg, N.C., also the home of the 82nd Airborne Division. The sophomore game starts at 5 p.m., and the varsity game starts at 7 p.m. Castle Bank is hosting the second year of the Castle Challenge, part of the Friday night program. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. The price of admission includes a steak sandwich meal from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tickets are available at Harvard High School, Marengo High School, and at the branches of Castle Bank in both towns. Call 815-943-6461 for information. The Castle Challenge raises money for both schools’ booster clubs. Last year the event raised $20,000. – Tim Kane |
