Eight students face charges after weekend homecoming activitiesBy NORTHWEST HERALD CRYSTAL LAKE – Eight students at Crystal Lake-area high schools face charges after last weekend's homecoming activities. A 15-year-old boy from Crystal Lake was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Friday at Prairie Ridge High School and charged with unlawful use of a weapon, unauthorized possession of a weapon on state-supported land, and underage drinking. Police said a staff member was alerted that the student had a spring-open knife while at the homecoming game. Four other students were charged with underage drinking: Megan L. Hjerpe, 17, of 9814 Captains Road, Algonquin; Melissa E. Jarosinski, 17, of 1515 Wood Road, Cary; Johanna L. Jimenez, 17, of 745 Wyndmuir Drive, Crystal Lake; and Gustavo Cardenas, 17, of 5210 Harry Court, Crystal Lake. Each posted $100 bond. Three separate incidents at Crystal Lake South High School's homecoming dance on Saturday led to three more arrests. Melissa C. Lutz, 17, of 1019 Cedar Crest Drive, Crystal Lake, and Evan C. Williams, 18, of 945 Golf Course Road, Unit 5, Crystal Lake, were charged with underage drinking. Both were released on $100 bond. Amanda T. Buck, 17, of 1449 Woodscreek Circle, Crystal Lake, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, underage drinking, and unlawful possession of alcohol. She was released on $100 bond. Police said similar charges are being sought against an 18-year-old male student from Crystal Lake who took Buck to the dance. |
