Boy hit by shot put wants info

WOODSTOCK – A Richmond-Burton High School student’s family wants to force the district to release information about a wayward shot-put that struck their son in the head.

That information could lead to a lawsuit against a female Huntley High School student who allegedly launched the errant shot-put.

An attorney for Mathew Glavin and his parents, Edward and Amy, filed a petition in McHenry County court to subpoena the school’s report about the April 24 incident.

His attorney, Marien Zalduondo, is seeking the information “before the filing of a lawsuit for the purposes of ascertaining responsible parties,” according to the Sept. 30 petition. Zalduondo believes the incident report contains the name of the Huntley High School female athlete allegedly involved.

Glavin was serving as a measurer during a shot-put event at the school April 24, according to the petition. He was about 9.5 feet beyond the out-of-bounds marker when a practice throw hit him above the left ear, causing him to collapse.

The petition did not detail the extent of Glavin’s injuries.

School administrators directed his attorney’s request for the report to the district’s liability insurance company’s lawyers, but they haven’t responded to her Sept. 8 request, according to the petition.

Superintendent Dan Oest did not return a call for comment Wednesday.

The case is set for a Feb. 17 scheduling conference.
