Victim files suit
in party stabbing

WOODSTOCK – A man who suffered nearly fatal stab wounds is suing the men who hosted the advertised party where the incident took place about two years ago.

Adrian Blach, 23, also is suing Jonathan R. Rainbolt, who pleaded guilty but mentally ill to attempted murder, and the property owner at 438 W. Algonquin Road, Algonquin. That’s where Blach was stabbed about eight times in the torso in November 2006 during a weekly party that two renters hosted after advertising the party on the Internet.

The home since has been demolished, but police went there a dozen times before the stabbing on complaints including underage drinking and illegal drug use, among others, according to the lawsuit.

The duo who hosted the parties – Mark Davidson, 38, and Adam Conard, 26 – were not criminally charged in connection with the stabbing.

Prosecutors dropped charges of providing alcohol to a minor and selling alcohol without a license that stemmed from an earlier party after a key witness’ story changed.

In the civil lawsuit, Blach alleges that Davidson and Conard “created an unreasonably dangerous and hazardous condition” by hosting the large parties with alcohol and failed to properly supervise their guests, mainly Rainbolt. The lawsuit asserts that the property owner, Gary E. Langos, also was responsible for ensuring that the property was safe.

Rainbolt, 24, is serving an eight-year prison term at Dixon Correctional Center and is expected to be eligible for parole in August 2013.

Blach is seeking at least $50,000 in each of the lawsuit’s five counts. A scheduling conference was set for March 10.
