MCYSA goes global
To the Editor:
The McHenry County Youth Sports Association (MCYSA) announced at the 2008 tournament that we would be sending a team of local host-organization players to the Dominican Republic in 2009.
The MCYSA Select 15U team, consisting of 15 players, will be playing a tournament in the Dominican Republic this June. Three players from each of this past year's 15U Host Organizations – CL Babe Ruth, Cardinals, Cyclones, Bombers and LITH Thunder – will depart on June 16 for Santa Domingo and play six to eight games over five days against teams from various Latin countries.
Players chosen from the host organizations will be selected not only for their baseball abilities, but also will be required to supply teacher recommendations, verification of satisfactory academic standing and commit to a code of conduct.
Since 1993, our communities have hosted players from around the world in the annual International Championships that MCYSA has sponsored. In 2009, 15 of our local student-athletes will enjoy the thrill of a lifetime while playing our national pastime in a setting unlike anything that they have ever experienced.
The tryouts will be early in 2009. Information will be distributed through prospective players host organization team managers in the next weeks.
