'Book Munchers' Learn at McHenry Library

McHenry Public Library Youth Services Associate Librarian Sharon Borland shares a few of her recommended reads with members of the library’s Book Munchers Book Club during the club’s monthly meeting at the library Saturday afternoon. Saturday’s participants included Grace Ellsworth (from left), 7, of Wonder Lake; Ella Whidby, 6, of McHenry; Luke Kaspar, 8, of Holiday Hills; and David Whidby, 9, of McHenry. The club is geared toward encouraging first-, second- and third-graders to enjoy reading. At each themed monthly meeting, Borland, who started the club about three years ago, promotes books that she believes would be of particular interest to children, and then the group has a snack and works on a craft project. “For the most part, they’re learning how to read every day at school, so this has to be fun,” Borland said. “If they can find something in one of these books that sends them to another book, I’ve won ... I win!” she added, smiling.
