Pistakee Highlands drug bust details released
WOODSTOCK - Police released details today about a drug bust and accusations that three family members had about $32,868 worth of cocaine and other drugs in a Johnsburg-area home.
Police allegedly found 312 grams of cocaine, 265 grams of marijuana and 2.6 grams of psilocybin mushrooms Tuesday in Joseph R. Kvacik’s home at 5416 Thelen Ave. in Pistakee Highlands, where his two sons sometimes stay.
Illinois State Police arrested Michael J. Kvacik, 29, in Lakemoor for alleged driving under the influence and found a trace amount of drugs and $4,000 cash Tuesday. Then, police went to search his father’s house, and the allegations are that the father, Joseph R. Kvacik, 59, tossed suspected marijuana into the garbage as police arrived, said attorney Barry Boches, who is representing the three men.
Joseph M. Kvacik, 34, was at the home during the search but did not have any drugs on him or admit to owning any, Boches said. Judge Joseph Condon reduced the bail for the two sons from $150,000 to $125,000 each, which means they each would have to post $12,500 to be released from jail. The father posted $15,000 bond Friday morning.
They were charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, and unlawful possession of marijuana. The most serious charge is a Class X felony, typically punishable with between six and 30 years in prison.
Police also seized a 2001 Ranger boat as a result of the joint investigation involving the state police, Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Police Narcotics Unit.
