Support Turning Point
To the Editor:
I moved to Prairie Grove with my husband and children two years ago.
We first started donating to Turning Point, the battered women’s shelter of McHenry County, when I decided to find a local pantry to donate some food. Later that year, when we learned that the shelter was running at capacity and low on resources, we organized a community food drive.
I was utterly shocked when I learned that our tax dollars would no longer support one of the most vital programs at Turning Point.
The Law Enforcement Advocacy Program (LEAP) provides technical assistance and support for victims seeking orders of protection and helps make sure those orders are enforced. This program provides victims of domestic violence with trained advocates to accompany them to court dates and offers them guidance and support.
This grant is giving women the tools they need to help them save their own life, and the lives of their children. This is a program that provides the most basic of needs.
I know that times are tough, but please do as we did and rush a check over to Turning Point.
No donation is ever too small.
