Quinn to investigate 'midnight' pay raises
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
SPRINGFIELD – Gov. Pat Quinn said he wants to know whether the Illinois Department of Transportation was the only agency to hand out raises just before former Gov. Rod Blagojevich was booted from office.
A dozen high-level IDOT employees got raises in January for no clear reason. They were in addition to regular cost-of-living increases.
The Associated Press found the raises averaged $6,000 a year, and one was nearly $10,000.
The Democratic governor said Wednesday his staff was looking into how and why the raises were approved.
Quinn also said he'll look into whether any other agencies approved similar increases, which he called "midnight raises."
