CARPENTERSVILLE – Voters in McHenry, Kane, Cook and DeKalb counties re-elected two incumbents to the District 300 school board and selected another former board member for the third open seat.

Anne Miller and Karen Roeckner will stay on the school board. Dave Alessio, who served on the board for about a year in 2006, also was elected. Miller earned the most votes with 4,467, according to unofficial totals. Alessio came in second with 4,228 votes, and Roeckner had 3,628 votes.

Robert Lee, the youngest candidate at age 27, came in at a close fourth place with 3,113 votes.

Dorothy Jordan received 2,250 votes, and Tracey Perez received 1,934 votes.

None of the six candidates received any votes in Cook or DeKalb counties, which each has one precinct in District 300. Miller has served on the board since 1997, and she said winning her fourth election still excited her.

“I’m thrilled the way it turned out,” she said. “I’m very amazed and humbled.”

Miller said having three experienced board members selected to fill the open seats will be a benefit.

“There’s always a learning curve once there’s a new board member,” she said. “I think that learning curve will be a lot smaller now with [Alessio] having been on the board before and having been involved in other board committees.”

Alessio said he had been studying school district issues during the campaign and would continue to do so over the next few weeks before his term officially starts.

“I think the campaign came together across all the areas,” Alessio said. “I felt pretty good because we made a strong effort.”

Lee said he was disappointed with his fourth-place finish, but respected the democratic process.

“I have more faith in the results and the process,” he said. “The voters spoke, and I respect them and what they told me.”

Lee said he hoped to apply for a position on the District 300 Finance Committee and would re-apply to stay on the Policy Committee.
