JOHNSBURG – It’s time for this year’s Johnsburg High School graduates to write their own scripts and start their own stories, valedictorian Margaret Fox told the crowd gathered Friday night on the Skyhawk Football Field.

“This is a titanic moment,” said Fox, who worked movie titles into her entire commencement speech, much to the amusement of the graduates and their families. “I’m thinking this is as good as it gets.”

Making references to Friday Night Lights and looking through 27 dresses for prom, Fox said of the last four years, “Now is the time when we stop watching life on a movie screen. We have
our own adventures ahead of us.”

She continued, “We’re at the beginning of our own stories now. I say bring it on.”

Class President David Gaura congratulated his fellow graduates on being a class that has “broken records, set new standards and raised the bar for future classes. Never forget – we are the Skyhawks.”

Graduating in such hard economic times is a challenge for the Class of 2009, salutatorian Naomi Spears said.

“It’s when the times are worse that we need to forge onward,” Spears said. “Our small world is facing some huge challenges.”

Superintendent Dan Johnson said goodbye to the class, congratulating them on their accomplishments.

“What speaks volumes for this class is the fact that they are involved in the community,” Johnson said, talking about the service work performed by this year’s seniors. “Always remember that you are a graduate of Johnsburg High School. You are part of our family.”
