ISLAND LAKE – Former Island Lake President Tom Hyde and his wife, Sharon, were charged with multiple felonies today.
According to Lake County officials, Tom Hyde faces two felony counts of official misconduct and two felony counts of prohibited interests of contracts. Sharon Hyde faces two felony counts of official misconduct, one felony count of theft and a felony count of making false entry.
Sharon Hyde runs the village preschool program, Creative Playtime.
The program has been under investigation by the Lake County State's Attorney's office, said Island Lake Finance Director John Little.
"The Lake County State's Attorney has been investigating for about two years," Little said. "They were looking at information about Tom Hyde and Playtime ... It's an ongoing thing."
Little said the village has never had a problem with Sharon and her work at the preschool.
Newly elected President Debbie Hermann said she wasn't made aware of the arrests before they were made or of any investigations by county officials.
"I've had other issues that were pertinent to address," she said.
She said the preschool program has been around for about 25 years and said the village had not made any requests for investigation.
