One critical
after crash

HARVARD – A 26-year-old man was in critical condition Wednesday night after an accident involving two semi-trucks and two other cars.

The crash happened about 9:46 a.m. near Harvard.

Grayslake resident Ryan Russell was driving north on Route 14 when traffic slowed because of road construction, and a semi-truck driven by John P. Bowers of Poplar Grove rear-ended Russell’s 2004
Ford pickup, according to
a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

The impact from the collision caused Russell’s vehicle to crash into another car in front of his, driven by William Tietjen of McHenry. Russell then lost control of his vehicle and drove into oncoming traffic. Russell hit a semi-truck headed in the opposite direction, driven by Shannon Ware of Hazel Crest.

McHenry County sheriff’s police, Harvard fire, Flight for Life and State Police responded to the scene.

Russell was flown to Rockford Memorial Hospital where he remained in critical condition Wednesday night.

Tietjen, 46, was treated at and released from Mercy Harvard Hospital, according to the news release.

Bowers and Ware were treated and released at the scene.

The incident is under investigation.
