Restrictions to be in place for Woodstock fireworks display

By NORTHWEST HERALD

WOODSTOCK – Each year, thousands of residents flock to Emricson Park to enjoy the annual Fourth of July fireworks show.

The Woodstock Police Department would like those who plan to attend to be aware of restrictions that will be in place.

The 2009 fireworks display will be Saturday.

The show will begin at dusk, about 9:30 p.m.

• A portion of the recreation path by the upper pond and warming house will be closed to use and access all day Saturday.

• The West Jackson Street entrance and exit will be closed to all vehicular traffic all day Saturday. Pedestrians will be allowed to enter and leave the park through this access point throughout the event.

• The Bigelow Road entrance to the park will be open throughout the day until 7 p.m., when it will be closed to all incoming vehicular traffic.

Motorists leaving the park will be able to use this exit throughout the event. Pedestrians will be allowed to enter and leave the park through this point throughout the event.

• The South Street entrance to the park will be open throughout the day and at 7 p.m. will become the only vehicular access point into the park.

Vehicular access into the park through this entrance will continue under police department direction and control until all paved parking areas are full.

• Pedestrians will be allowed to enter and leave the park through the South Street entrance and exit until about 9:30 p.m. At that time, this entrance will be closed to all forms of traffic to provide for the safety zone required to start and conduct the fireworks show.

The police department recommends that people arrive at the park early.

All available parking spaces within the park will be filled well before the start of the show.

All pedestrian access into the park through the South Street entrance will be closed before the start of the fireworks show.

For information, call the police department at 815-338-2131.
